My work illustrates who I am as a person, representing a little part of me in each piece. The "Moulin Rouge" and "Satine" paintings represent my hopelessly romantic side believing in the truly Bohemian motto; beauty, freedom, truth, and above all else, love. Because I am fascinated by the human body and how it functions a human figure is present in every painting in this portfolio. In "The Dance", the two figures are skinlessThe Artist, revealing the organs, muscles, and bones that allow the man and woman to capture the grace of the dance. Human emotion is also a dynamic subject to capture on canvas. In "Day Dream" the young woman is wistfully gazing out a window; and in "I Want the Chair" the woman appears to be screaming that the chair will never be hers though it is what she so intensely craves. These paintings have all been learning experiences, whether it is to study the body, evaluate tones and values, create texture and depth, or to use the concept behind the painting as the focus rather than the actual figure.

The main influences of my work are Caravaggio, Artemisia, Modigliani, Degas, and Toulouse Lautrec. I love the Romantic and Baroque styles, and I especially admire the chiaroscuro technique. The extreme contrast between the illuminated subject and the autonomous darkness of the background is striking and appealing to me. Studying classical piano in my childhood has brought musical and lyrical influences to my art, and most of my sketches illustrate a line from a song. The emotion from the melody combined with the meaning of the lyrics compels me to capture the image they portray.

I ask the viewer to look at my paintings and respond with an open mind searching for the deeper meaning rather than the literal representation. My desire is to expose the creativity within the viewer and help them see elements within that embody their own creative passions.  We each possess an inner core of creativity-I want to bring that which is hidden to the forefront. Through my artwork I hope to demonstrate the endless possibilities that exist when a person opens their mind and discovers their childlike imagination.  Creativity helps you look within; artists are just individuals who acknowledge that fact and develop it.

From the time I could hold a pencil, I have never stopped drawing. Art always was and is my comfort, it is how I express myself, and it is my life. I have an incredible passion for art and a craving to learn everything there is to know about it. Perhaps people may see me as a bit eccentric, but this uniqueness is often the very thing that defines a true artist!
